Hello
On holiday in Portugal
I was born in Leeds, Yorkshire. For most of the 1980’s I lived abroad in Africa. I now live in Tadcaster, back in the heart of Yorkshire. As a member of Tockwith Art Group, I have acted as a juror for painting competitions and helped organise artist’s workshops. I work mainly with watercolour and acrylic switching between representational or abstract pieces. My work is regularly shown at Tockwith Festival and in galleries around Yorkshire, England.
I am a self-taught artist, relying on observation and my own style, subjects and media. A passion for drawing and painting has been a lifelong pursuit.
During the 1980s, living in the Seychelles and then Togo, West Africa influenced my art; I became more aware of vibrant colours. I created artistic and photographic records documenting the old colonial houses that were slowly falling into disrepair and being demolished. I also supported, and collaborated with, local artists such as Nicholas Amedokpo from Togo.
My work is influenced by my experience, exploring the countryside of Yorkshire and the Lake District and the people of fascinating countries such as Peru and Mexico.
I love playing guitar and singing in live venues. A project I am currently exploring is painting electric guitars.
Artist's Statement:
